Frequently asked questions about our best savings accounts for £100,000
What is the best savings account for £100,000?
It depends on when you need access to your cash, how you want to use your lump sum, and what you're working towards.
Splitting your money across different savings accounts can help you balance those priorities. For example, keeping some in an Instant Access account means you've got cash on hand for unexpected costs, while locking the rest away in a Fixed Rate account could help it grow faster through compound interest.
How many bank accounts do I need for £100,000 to be fully protected?
You would only need one bank account, as the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protects your eligible deposits up to £120,000 per client, per banking group. But FSCS protection isn't the only reason to split your cash between different accounts.
Spreading £100,000 across accounts with different terms could give you greater flexibility over how and when you can access your money, while potentially securing higher rates on some of your deposit.
Previously, the FSCS protection limit was £85,000, but the scheme increased this limit to £120,000 on 01 December 2025.
How much interest could £100,000 earn?
It depends on where you deposit your £100,000.
Some banks offer higher interest rates on large deposits. And if you lock your cash away for a fixed period, compound interest can help grow your savings over time with minimal effort.
Use our compound interest calculator to work out how your £100,000 could grow.
Should I split £100,000 across multiple banks?
Splitting £100,000 across a handful of banks could let you secure higher rates while also balancing access to your money.
If your deposit is eligible, you could enjoy FSCS protection for your entire £100,000 in one account. But this approach also ties your earnings to the same interest rate and access terms, potentially limiting your growth.
Is my £100,000 fully protected with Flagstone?
The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) protects eligible cash deposits up to £120,000 per client, per banking group.
Long-term compound interest, topping up your savings, or receiving another lump sum could take you over the FSCS limit. This is why some savers with larger deposits use savings platforms like Flagstone, spreading their cash across multiple banks to stay within protection limits.
While our FSCS tracker shows how the FSCS protects your deposits, it can't include any savings you have outside of Flagstone. If you hold deposits outside of our platform, this may affect your overall FSCS protection.
