In conversation with Mark French, Strategic Partnership Director at One Financial Solutions
Founded in 2012, One Financial Solutions is a fully independent financial advice firm spanning the UK. They work with individual clients, businesses, charities, and trusts, covering everything from personal financial planning to employee benefits.
We spoke to Mark about the firm's move to Flagstone, and how it's helped advisers bring cash management into everyday conversations with clients.
Can you tell us about yourself and One Financial Solutions?
I've been Strategic Partnership Director at One Financial Solutions for just over two years, having spent four years at Schroders Personal Wealth and 21 years at Lloyds before that.
One Financial Solutions is a directly authorised, whole-of-market independent financial advice firm. We have around 30 advisers across the length and breadth of the UK, and that number is set to significantly grow over the next 12 months.
I work with all types of clients and do a significant amount of work with law firms and the armed forces community, which shapes quite a bit of how we think about cash management.
Before partnering with Flagstone, what was the firm's approach to cash management?
We started looking at cash management platforms in 2024. We had a white-label platform through another provider, which worked reasonably well initially. But over time it became clear that the investment going into the platform wasn't what we'd hoped for. The bank panel was limited too, often just three or four options for standard accounts, and even fewer for power of attorney cases. We knew we needed something more capable.
What drove you to consider Flagstone?
What we wanted was something that could serve all of our clients: individuals, businesses, charities, and trusts. The recommendation to look at Flagstone came from our Head of Private Clients, who had used it previously at St. James’ Place. He knew it was the leading platform in the UK, that clients recognised it, and that the bank panel and rate access were strong. Once we started having conversations with the team, it was clear it was the right move.
How was your onboarding experience, and where did Flagstone's account management team add value?
The process was simple, easy, and quick. The Flagstone account management team ran a dedicated launch session for our advisers, including our mortgage advisers who hadn't previously thought about cash management as part of their offering. The response was almost unanimous. Several of our advisers had used Flagstone before, so for them it was a no-brainer. For those who hadn't, the proposition and the charging structure won them over quickly.
How has Flagstone helped your advisers talk to clients about cash?
There are broadly three types of advisers when it comes to adopting something new: early adopters who immediately see the value, those who need to see it work with one client first, and those you really have to bring along with you. We have roughly an even split across all three.
What's changed over the last 6-9 months is that we've started having much more deliberate conversations internally about passive income – the idea that cash management generates recurring revenue with minimal additional effort, while doing right by the client. That framing has helped. Even advisers who were slower to adopt are coming round once they see it working.
What's changed for the firm since partnering with Flagstone?
The proposition is strong. Clients who move across from our previous platform benefit from better rates, access to more banks, and instant visibility of cash prices – that alone is a significant improvement. The fee structure has also removed a real friction point: no more invoices, no more clients having to pay by debit card.
We're also thinking bigger about what the platform can do for us. I work with several law firms, and the ability to support power of attorney clients through Flagstone is valuable. We serve charities and commercial businesses too, and having a platform that works across all those segments matters.
With 30 advisers today and plans to significantly increase that over the next year, we're only just getting started.
