Who we are
It may have become a cliché, but Flagstone really did begin over coffee across a kitchen table. In the midst of a global financial crisis and falling interest rates, two friends had a vision to revolutionise the cash deposit and savings market.
Crammed into a basement with a team of four – plus a disobedient Labrador, Rocky, we set out on our mission to upset the status quo, and create a better way for people to get better returns on their investment, while protecting their cash.
As the UK’s leading cash deposit platform, our goal is simple: To be the trusted protector of the UK's cash deposits.
To date we have placed more than £13bn in client assets and today, our award-winning, innovative and secure platform provides access to hundreds of accounts – including exclusive and market-leading interest rates – from 60+ banking partners.

Andrew Thatcher | Co-Founder and Executive Director
Andrew founded Flagstone in 2013 after a 15-year career in banking and hedge funds working for Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, GLG Partners (Principal, Co-Head of UK) and MAN Group (Executive Director, Asia) in the UK and Hong Kong. With significant experience across the financial sector, he has a successful and proven track record in managing and launching products for both banks and retail clients.
Simon Merchant | Co-Founder and CEO
Simon started his career with 10 years at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker in Europe and the United States. In 2000, he co-founded and built a market-leading financial technology business that sold to a US public company in 2005. Since then, Simon has worked as an entrepreneur and investor in the European media and technology market, as well as the private equity market in Africa.

Susanna Brown | Chief People Officer
Susanna joined Flagstone in April 2019 as the Chief People Officer, bringing a breadth of experience in high-growth environments. She is responsible for Flagstone’s People and Culture strategy, leading on engagement, diversity and talent management and leadership development. A strategic and commercially minded HR professional with a background in psychology and coaching, she shines the spotlight on and helps overcome one of businesses most complex challenges – people!
John Martin | Product Director
John joined Flagstone in May 2018 with significant experience of delivering complex change at pace.
After over a decade as an Army Officer leading high performing teams operating globally John transitioned into technology and business change in the Financial Services sector. He has led significant transformation programmes for several banks and wealth managers. John brings a track record of successful ownership of the full product lifecycle, a focus on the needs of the user and the delivery of value.
